Hi, I'm Valerie Englehart. I am a watercolor artist and surface pattern designer and today I just want to show you a really quick and easy way to create a mock-up and set your art on this square piece of canvas. I have included a link in the description and this is a free download on Pexels. I like to use that because it's a royalty-free website. I also already have opened the art piece that I intend to use on my canvas.

So I've got everything ready to go. I've got my background selected which is just the mock-up file I opened and I'm going to press command J to duplicate the layer and if you are on a PC, anytime I say command, control should work. So command J duplicates the layer and even though it's a square I don't think it's a perfect square. So instead of using the square shape tool I'm going to press P on my keyboard and use the pen tool and I'm just going to try and get it as close as I can on these corners. Don't worry if it goes off a little bit, we can fix it later. See, whoops a little bit there no big deal.

Now that this is selected if I come up to the top I can see make selection and I want to select this area. A new box has popped up and I do like to feather things by one pixel just that way it blends a little smoother. It isn't such a hard line so I'm going to press OK and I've got my marching ants and what I want to do is I want to copy and paste this selection on its own layer so command C, command B and if I turn everything off we can see I now have that canvas on its own layer.

So next I'm going to create a new layer. I'm going to come to my layer panel and click this plus sign. I'm going to come up to my art piece and I'm going to drag that tab down so that I can, oh I still have my pen tool so I'm going to press V like Valerie to get my selection tool and just drag it over and that's nice and big and we don't want it nice and big a lot too big anyway so I'm just going to scale it down and get it roughly close because as you can see this is a rectangle not a square and that's fine I just want to get close. I think that looks good. Done.

So now to clip it I have my layer four selected. Well I guess I didn't need “three”. So layer four is my artwork. It might not be the same number on your computer so just go select your artwork. Come up to this menu and we are going to select multiply and now we can see through our artwork down below and I can position it a little better. That's fine. Make sure my layer is still selected. Do a right click and select create clipping mask and I'll just click off here in the void and this is great because now I've got the shadows on my art it looks natural like it would be in the room but up here I obviously didn't get all of the canvas so I'm going to go back to the layer where we just have that canvas floating in space.

I'm going to come up to edit go down to transform and I'm going to skew and I'm just going to move that shape and because our layer on top is larger than the canvas space all it's going to do is start showing off a little more of our art so we don't need to go change that layer at all. Let's bring this over. Alright I clicked done. I'm going to go click in space and I kind of like this little overhang at the bottom because it gives it like a third dimension like an extra shadow on the canvas but there we go. There is our art mock-up. Thank you.
